Mary Anne Greene
“Our winner this year moved to Washington from Brookfield in 1980. Their volunteerism began immediately as they became an active member of the Washington Primary School PTO. This effort continued to Shepaug as our award winner served in many capacities including Parent Council, Peer Leadership, and the Council for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
Our recipient has served on the Steep Rock Board of Trustees as well as the Chairperson of the Historic District Commission. Currently, our award winner volunteers for an amazingly large number of organizations in town including the Washington Community Fund, the Village Improvement Society, the Washington/Warren Foodbank, the Holiday Basket Committee, the St. John’s Fund, and Parks and Rec. Not only is this an impressive list of contributions, but it is also remarkable that our winner has held leadership positions in most of these organizations for more than 20 years.
I find it touching that our award winner often chooses to serve in organizations designed to help people less fortunate. That is exactly the kind of selfless contribution to our community we are trying to honor with this award in Stephen’s memory.
Please join me in congratulating the 2016 winner of the Major Stephen Reich Award for Exceptional Citizenship: Mary Anne Greene.”
