This year’s recipient was born and raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1966.  Upon graduation, the award winner enlisted in the Army and was sent to Vietnam.  After 2 tours of serving with distinction, the recipient returned home to Washington with not 1, but 2 Purple Hearts.  Our award winner then went on to a long career with Connecticut Light and Power as a lineman where he quickly earned the love and respect of all Washington residents through his tireless work during winter storms to ensure everyone had power, no matter the day or how late at night.

In the late 1980s, our recipient became active in re-establishing the American Legion Gage-Zumpf Post #87.  The receiver’s tireless efforts increased membership so much that he received national attention within the organization.  Locally, our recipient spends endless hours raising money to benefit the baseball and softball leagues in town as well as the Boy Scout troops.  And all the while, his actions are often behind the scenes as he never looks for any recognition.  

Throughout his lifetime, our award winner has demonstrated strong leadership qualities on the field of battle as well as here at home in Washington.  His character has never wavered, and he is defined by his service to this nation and this community.
